A small village in the heart of the Alps.
As the holidays and exams draw near, it would be nice to take you all on a picturesque daytrip to Zermatt. The train ride is long (3h30 from Luzern) and also rather pricey (up to 100.- with no fare reduction).
If a daytrip sounds too rushed, we encourage you to look for accomodation in Zermatt (there is a youth hostel), but remind you that it may be pricey. Zermatt can also be done in a day, you will be a little tired when you get home :)
Activities
Free daytrip activities include:
- 1h easy hike in the woods
- guided tour through town
- fare to Sunnegga (less than 20 CHF)
- fare to Gornergrat (40-80 CHF)
Depending on the time, you can also rent ice skates (5-10 CHF) or bobsleds in Gornergrat
Gornergrat features a panoramic viewpoint from Europe‘s highest-altitude Hotel (3100m)
Sunnegga offers a nice mountain view and one can hike down to Zermatt (2-3h)
Accomodations
You will have to get accomodation yourself. We recommend either the Matterhorn Hostel or the Youth Hostel, as they are the cheapest (40-60 CHF)
